Our Past-Facts and Falsehoods: History that Textbooks Forgot or Got Wrong.
Virginia Humanities and the Virginia Department of Education History and Social Science Program are thrilled to partner together again to offer a rare opportunity designed for primarily K-12 educators, a chance for personal growth and enhanced content knowledge by connecting with three of our state’s greatest treasures, Virginia Tribal Chiefs.

This will be the first of a three-part virtual Professional Development series featuring Virginia Tribal Chiefs (Stephen R. Adkins, Chief of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe; Kenneth Branham, Chief of the Monacan Indian Nation; G. Anne Richardson, Chief of the Rappahannock Indian Tribe) as they discuss history, education, and our future through the experiences of their ancestors and hopes of future generations.

Session Description: The story of Virginia prior to the arrival of the English to state and federal recognition; laws and treaties; survival and adaptation; the Racial Integrity Acts; maintaining tribal identity; the struggle for education; renewal and hope.
