Join Virginia Humanities’ Director of the “Immigration Stories” project, Mr. David Bearinger as he moderates a panel discussion with Ms. Karla P. Almendarez-Ramos, Mr. Seyoum Berhe and Dr. Emma Violand-Sánchez about the immigrant and refugee experience with focus on the needs of K-12 students and their families.

This session is the second in a three-part series and will focus on resources available to educators.

Intended Audience: K-12 Educators and Administrators

Description: In this series of sessions, we will explore the immigrant and refugee experience with a focus on the needs of K-12 students and their families.

Presenters/panelists will include:
Mr. David Bearinger, Senior Director of Grants and Global Virginia Programs and Director of the "Immigration Stories" project at Virginia Humanities.

Ms. Karla Almendarez-Ramos (Honduras), Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs for the City of Richmond

Mr. Seyoum Berhe (Ethiopia), Director of the Office of Newcomer Services and State Refugee Coordinator for the Commonwealth of Virginia

Dr. Emma Violand-Sanchez (Bolivia), Founding Director of The Dream Project, which provides scholarship and mentorship support to undocumented immigrant and refugee high school students seeking to attend college in Virginia.
